Study With A Purpose
Life and growth go together. So it is with a Christian. Healthy growth is an indication of healthy life. In Books 5 and 6 you will be considering more Bible truths which can help you mature in Christ.
The Word of God is the basic food for Christian growth. The ways to a useful grasp of the Word are to memorize it, study it, read it and hear it preached or taught. These will help you know the Word; but knowing the Word does not guarantee spiritual growth. God's Word is transferred from the printed page to our minds by these methods—but for it to accomplish God's purpose, it must also get to our hearts and change our daily living. God wants us to know and think about His Word, to consider our lives, and to make any changes necessary—as David said:
"I thought on my ways, and turned my feet unto Thy testimonies."
—Psalm 119:59
Turning our feet—obeying God's Word—is essential for spiritual progress. As you compare your life to the teachings of God's Word and heed what the Holy Spirit shows you, you mature in Christ—knowing God's will and ways in experience, as well as just intellectually.
In your daily Bible study, approach the Scriptures with a heart ready to obey whatever God reveals to you. Beware of harboring sin, pride or unbelief which prevent God from teaching you and blessing you as He wants to.
